First there was only water and Bumba. Bumba was the creator of all things in Africa. It all started when Bumba started feeling horrible stomach pains, they continued to get worse and worse until he vomited up the sun. The sun came out everyday and got hot as the days went on. Finally the water that existed started to evaporate and create the clouds in the sky. After the clouds came the mountains and hills. They would come out of the water and dry themselves off with the sun and rejoice as the ranges of mountains that exist today. Many days of heat and constant sunshine cause the black sand banks and the reefs to be created. The stomach pains seemed to settle for awhile until then it was time for more. Later more stomach pains appeared. They got worse and worse until he vomited up the moon and the stars to light up the night skies. The pains didn't suppress until he vomited up the first living creatures. Koy Bumba the leopard, Pongo Bumba the crested eagle, Ganda Bumba the crocodile, and Yo the little fish. There was still more to come. Later came Kono Bumba the tortoise, Tsetse the lightning as fast and beautiful as the cheetah, Nyanyi Bumba the white heron, one beetle, and Budi the goat.
After all of the animals were created Bumba thought he was done with his sickness and pain, until it stormed again. This time he vomited the first human beings. Only one of these humans were white like Bumba. After his legacy was lived many of the creatures he had created carried on his legacy. The white heron created all birds that fly in the sky, the crocodile formed all the serpents that swim and crawl and the iguana. The goat created all horned animals that walk on the earth. The little fish created all of the fish and that swim in the oceans, lakes, rivers, streams. The beetle created all insects that fly and crawl over the land.
However, Bumba found out that he had three sons that finished the work that he started. His eldest son created the white ants that helped bury Bumba when he died. His middle son was responsible for creating the plants that repopulate themselves season after season. His youngest son couldn't succeed at anything, he always failed until he created the bird called the kite.
Now, Tsetse was alone and caused trouble, she started fires and ruined what had created over years. Bumba told her she had to live in the sky. Even from the sky she could reach the earth and cause damage. Everyone who lived on earth feared her and her fires. This came with a price. The villagers had to live without the gift of fire. They ate foods raw and couldn't make sufficient tools. This caused Bumba to teach his people how to create fire from all of the trees on the ground without the help of Tsetse. In the end this caused all to rejoice.
